A simulated ride

The essentials

Everything a bike computer should be.

Live ride tracking

Speed, power, heart rate, climb and your route on one screen. Big rounded numerals you can read from the handlebars at 30 km/h, with auto-pause, a rain lock and a self-dimming screen for the awkward bits.

Aura Routes

Not a recycled community heatmap. Pick a mood, a surface and a distance, and AuraVelo scouts the actual roads around you to build a loop for it, then talks you round it, turn by turn.

Private by design

No account, no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier, and no server belonging to us for anything to land on. Your rides live on your phone, and your own iCloud if you want them to.

Free, forever

No subscription, no paywall, no unlockable anything: every feature on this page is in the free app. There's an optional tip jar, and that is the entire business model.

Your metrics, your way

Build the cockpit you actually look at.

Ten metrics on the data screen, six over the map, in whatever order suits the ride. Tap a few below and watch the phone rearrange itself. These are the real ones.

Aura Routes

Tell it the ride you want.
It goes and finds the roads.

Most apps hand you whatever everyone else already rode. AuraVelo asks what kind of afternoon you're having, then builds a loop out of the roads that answer it, weighted for surface, quiet lanes, water, coffee or climbing, depending on what you asked for.

RoadSurface

A simplified preview. In the app this runs on real road, surface and terrain data for wherever you happen to be standing, and hands the result to turn-by-turn voice navigation.

…and the rest of the pannier

The long list.

All of it free, all of it on-device.

Cosmic Cadence

Every ride ends with the sky it happened under.

Finish a ride and there's a crystal ball waiting at the bottom of the summary. Look into it and the fog clears onto the night your ride actually happened in: the constellations that were overhead, how much the moon was helping, where the planets were, and a short reading that ties the numbers to the sky.

“Forty-two minutes under a waxing gibbous, with Lyra almost directly overhead. You climbed 148 m into a sky that was doing most of the lighting for you.”

  • Zenith constellations: the line art for whatever was directly above you.
  • Lunar-assist dial: how much light the moon was lending the road.
  • Planetary astrolabe: the planets, placed for your time and location.
  • Achievements as constellations: records light up star by star, tier by tier.
  • AuraVelo Wrapped: a swipeable year in review, shareable as one long poster.

Privacy

No servers. No SDKs.
No sneaky tracking.
That's the whole policy.

Your rides, routes and profile are stored only on device and iCloud. Nowhere to go, because we never built a way out.

Stays on your phone

  • Every ride, route and saved place you record
  • Your profile, bikes and component mileage
  • Training load, goals, segments and personal records
  • The Cosmic Cadence reading, generated on device
  • iCloud sync is optional, and only ever your iCloud

Never happens

  • No account, login or email address
  • No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
  • No advertising identifier, and no ads at all
  • Your data is never sold or used for advertising
  • Nothing is linked to you across apps or sites

What does leave the phone, and why

AppleMaps and Weather, Apple Health for the workouts you choose to save, and the App Store for an optional tip. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
AWS Terrain TilesApproximate location, to look up terrain elevation for hill profiles. From the Registry of Open Data on AWS.

Deleting a ride, or the app, removes its data from your device. Anything you saved to Apple Health is managed in the Health app.

Questions

The short answers.

Is it actually free, or free-to-start?

Actually free. There is no subscription, no paid tier and nothing locked behind a purchase. Every feature described on this page is in the app you download.

There is a one-time tip jar in Settings for anyone who wants to chip in. Ignoring it changes nothing about the app.

Do I need to make an account?

No. There's no sign-up, no email address and no login screen. Install it and press record.

If you want your rides on more than one device, you can switch on iCloud sync, which uses your own iCloud account. AuraVelo never sees it.

Can I get my rides into Strava, Komoot or anything else?

Yes. Every ride exports as GPX, TCX or FIT from the share sheet, and routes come back in the same way: send a GPX to AuraVelo from any other app and it lands in the import inbox.

There's also a full library archive if you want to move everything at once, and rides can be written to Apple Health as workouts.

Does it work with my Apple Watch and my sensors?

The Apple Watch app streams your heart rate to the phone with no setup beyond installing it.

Bluetooth heart-rate straps, power meters, and speed and cadence pods pair directly, and the app remembers them between rides. Power drives training load, zones and W′ balance.

A Garmin, Huawei or Polar watch works too, as long as it can broadcast its heart rate: AuraVelo speaks the standard Bluetooth profile, so a broadcasting watch pairs like a strap. The guide has the setting to look for on each brand.

What happens when I lose signal?

Ride recording doesn't need a cell connection, only GPS. For maps, AuraVelo keeps recently-used tiles automatically, and you can download durable offline areas either around a saved route or as a radius around a point.

What about battery, and riding in the rain?

The screen dims itself after a spell without touches and wakes at a tap.

Rain lock arms a touch-proof screen so raindrops can't press anything; hold the droplet to unlock it again.

Which languages are supported?

Seven: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. That covers the spoken ride callouts and the turn-by-turn prompts, which use the system voice for your device's language.

How do I report a problem?

You can report an issue from within the app, under Settings → Feedback.

The guide covers what goes wrong most often. AuraVelo is offered free and as-is, with no dedicated support desk, but reports are read.
